Save Your Cables

Let’s call it keeping cables out of the landfill, or just saving money. Sony has started omitting the USB charging cable with some of their smartphones. Apple also is omitting such cables in their latest AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3. You may want to keep some of those cables around that you may be about to throw out.

Ask AI to recommend great places to visit and hikes to take and you may become one of the increasing numbers of travelers ending up with no path or going someplace that doesn’t exist, or guided to transit hours that are wrong. AIs just hate to be wrong and can’t seem to “admit” “they” don’t know something. So, always check locations, routes, and hours with real sources and people.

Adobe, following up on releasing Photoshop for free on the iPhone, is now releasing Premiere also. It is also free, until you want to use some of their AI features or to use extra storage in Adobe Creative Cloud. https://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/app.html

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users engaging with Meta’s AI will start seeing more personalized (read targeted) ads based on content in your chats. Meta will implement this in mid-December with no way to opt out. This is a reminder that you should search out how to limit the sharing of any chat you have with the increasing number of AI powered chat agents, maybe treating each as if you would not be embarrassed if your mother saw your chat.

One more place that will use your information for AI training is LinkedIn. You are presumed all in on this unless you explicitly opt out. They label this setting as “Data for Generative AI Improvement” and it is hidden in “How LinkedIn uses your data.” You should scroll through and check what else you are sharing with 3rd party partners. And, then spend another half hour looking at all your settings, how tiring it is to keep up with all the different settings for each social sharing site.

If you suddenly get a flurry or hundreds of prompts on your phone requesting authentication for one of your online accounts, you are being prompt bombed. Late at night you are likely to shut them up by tapping yes or ok on one of them. Don’t, or you will have just let someone into your account at wherever that is. Only affirm those types of prompts when you are trying to log into a place that sends them, it is something you just triggered so it should be OK. Otherwise, just ignore them and turn off notifications if it is happening late at night.

Adrift is where you can push out your doubts and cares or read those from others. All are set adrift anonymously. Wait for more to slowing drift across your screen. https://adrift.site/
